The country is in lockdown, people are getting sick and some people are dying. Hospitals in urban areas are being overrun with sick patients and the action of care to combat this pandemic is still a bit hazy, but we are all doing our best to combat it. As the facts come out more slowly than we want and much more slowly than we need, the one thing that keeps standing out to me is we were not ready for this at all and is it possible to be in the future. The steps we have taken as a society and a nation are the best that we could have done, and that hindsight is always 20/20. In reality, there is no way of knowing what to do in this type of scenario until after you have gone through it, and unfortunately, everyone has an opinion, but no one has a science-backed answer, because one doesn't exist.
What we do know for certain if you didn't already is we need to take control of our own health and quit trying to leave it up to the government or our health care practitioners. I'm not saying you shouldn't go to the Doctor and I'm not saying they don't have the answers that couldn't be farther from the truth. What I am saying is you need to make your health your own priority and learn to use your Doctors as resources like they are designed to be used, not to be the people left in control of your health. As a patient, it is a duty to understand what your body is doing and the ways to best take care of it. Your health and health of your family should be your top priority, and this pandemic should prove that. We need to understand what our diet is like and that we need to control our weight. Situations and life choices that affect your lungs should be avoided ie smoking. This virus has wreaked havoc on those with lung issues and weight problems. Of course, there are a few outliers that are getting seriously ill, but for the most part, there are underlying issues and in many of those cases they are preventable.
If any of these scenarios are preventable are you willing to take the necessary steps to improve your health NOW? Are you willing to do what it takes to protect yourself and your family from being more susceptible to any pathogen that you come across? Maybe we can't completely protect ourselves, but we can give our bodies and immune systems a fighting chance, but it all begins with what we are willing to do to improve those systems. One thing this pandemic has shown us is that it is much easier to be proactive rather than reactive. Taking our health into our own hands is paramount and hopefully, if we can get enough of us with super-efficient immune systems we can reduce the lockdowns and the extremely restrictive measures that were taken to combat this pandemic. This scenario is very far away, but we can start by understanding what we can control and that is our own health.
Over the next few weeks, we will be launching a campaign to help you improve your health and the steps you can take to improve yourself and the health of your family.
Start today and make your health your own responsibility!
