I'm stating nothing new and there is no doubt you know whats going on. There is not a single media outlet not mentioning it and there are numerous articles just like this one circulating around. All it takes is a trip to any store to realize we are in a widespread panic and it has many people up in arms. At least we know everyone's tush will be clean due to the shortage of toilet paper, but is all of this necessary in the grand scheme of things? I mean every sporting event has been cancelled and people are being told to stay home and not travel if at all possible. Some reactions on social media are saying this is a step too far, but is it?
I'm as upset as anyone that the mountaineers season has been ended and many sporting events have been cancelled, although it hardly seems like we have much room to complain given the fact that this virus has caused the death of many people around the world. Vehemently arguing against the steps being taken can be a selfish endeavor considering the way this virus can spread, that being said the measures taken can seem a bit steep if we don't remove our own biases on what we think is going on out of the equation.
No matter your opinion on the matter of the way things are being handled lets first consider a few things. This virus has taken the World by storm, so its hard to say this is only our countries problem or that our government is somehow at the root of it, although I am a sucker for a good conspiracy theory. But lets take the restrictions into consideration and the amount of media coverage this situation is garnering. Say this virus isn't as bad as the media is making it out to be, or that it is just another virus that threatens a certain demographic of the population, the precautions being laid out on the country are a good test run for any future problems that could be of a larger threat.
Lets face it the threat of biological warfare in the future is a real one, considering the technology we now have to create these often dubbed designer viruses. The way our country is handling this situation could be a good indicator for how we as a nation and as a population respond to pandemics in the future. In my opinion this is a great barometer for our leaders to take into consideration of how the nation acts in the face of a threat and how our leaders can improve on how they communicate to the people of the nation, and if there are any areas in which they need to improve, should something even more dangerous strike in the future. So while we can sit back and complain about restrictions being deployed lets remember we can use this as a warning and as a learning experience to better prepare ourselves for future outbreaks and pandemics.
All of this being said there are a few precautions we can expand upon in order to further prevent the spread or to protect ourselves. We can start by washing our hands and this is rather redundant, but can never be understated. We can limit the places in which we go and the amounts of people we are immediately in contact with. Taking measures to boost our immune systems is never a bad idea. Ways to do that are:
-drinking plenty of water, try to get in a gallon per day
-limit the amount of sugar we are consuming
-supplementation with Vitamin D and a vitamin C (any of the fizzy drinks with low sugar). -----echinacea can be good for preemptive protection
-get adjusted to keep those ribs moving freely and taking proper deep breaths(essential in reducing acute respiratory problems)
So maybe the hysteria is too much, maybe it isn't, but take this as a time to better understand what future issues could present and how we could better prepare for them. If you happen to be part of the group of the country that gets a few weeks off, take this time to read a good book or two and think about ways to improve your life and the life of those around you. It may also be a great time to research what stocks to invest in(we should have jumped on that Charmin stock), as there will be some money to be made in the near future! Be safe everyone and for God's sake WASH YOUR HANDS!
